    « NEVER AGAIN MICROSOFT »
I don't even want to waste another minute with this piece of junk.

The zune device is pretty decent.

But your only WAY to get music to it (from your PC) is the PC ZUNE Software -- it's a bloated PIG. SLOW on my very fast computer and now, I can't even install it again on my XP laptop media center. I won't bore you with details. Suffice it to say that I've got 20 years of tech experience (my first computer was a 4K "pc" and I was an IT director - so I've been in technology for a while, and I can't find out why this won't reinstall.

I will never buy another microsoft product again because each time, the experience is worse and worse.

    Go to hell microsoft.

« defective right out of the box - Zune 80 GB model »
Microsoft was not clear that the Zune 80 GB Red model I purchased was about to become obsolete being replaced by touch screen hi-definition models. Worse than that, it was defective right out of the box. After much wrangling sand aggravation I finally got a new outdated model -- literally by way of a slow boat from China (it took over one month).

    « Zune 80gb MP3 Player »
I used to think I wanted Apple's iPod until a co-worker introduced me to Microsoft's Zune. What a great switch! I have an Apple iPhone and it's great, but I completely HATE iTunes. The Zune software is so easy and user friendly. I don't get anywhere near as frustrated with Zune as I do iTunes.

My Zune has a beautiful black casing and I love it. It is high impact and durable and would withstand a fall. The screen is very readable and the interface buttons are self explanitory. I find that the battery life on my Zune lasts much longer than my iPhone. The sound quality of the Zune is also amazing. I use various brands of ear buds: Shure, Sony, and Koss. And the quality that each one produces is superb; you won't be disappointed.

I give the Zune 2 thumbs up and will gladly replace mine if it ever gives up the ghost.

    « Garbage. »
I've never been one to fly off the handle and post negative reviews of products on a whim, which is why it's taken me about 2 years to feel justified in posting this review. Believe me when I say it: this device is a waste of money. The main aspect which made me purchase this mp3 player over the iPod of the same price range was that it had a built-in radio, and at the time was the only mp3 player I knew of which did. Now I wish I had just waited.

The radio feature is still a plus, I have to admit, but the reception is terrible no matter where you are. And as for the actual mp3 playing features? I have no complaints about sound quality (although you have to be careful when ripping music with the Zune software or the file can be corrupted quite easily). But the software itself is atrocious. It is almost embarrassingly buggy, to the point where I've just begun ignoring the "update notifications" because no "update" actually did anything to improve the software's performance. It would take too long to detail all the various problems themselves, but they basically run the gamut from things like changing the names of an album's tracks without asking, to inexplicably grouping all the cds of a live album together as if they were one cd, so if you hit "play" on the device, it plays all the 1's, then all the 2's, etc.

Another random problem I've come across recently is from time to time it will decide that all the tracks on a given album you've just ripped don't belong together, and scatter them around your collection, 2 songs here, 3 there, as "unknown artist" and "unknown album", so you then have to track them down and re-group them all over again (which, obviously, the software should do for you). Of course about 50% of the time when you [try to] do this by dragging them together, it simply won't allow it, and you're left with a lot of random tracks scattered here and there, left for you to delete them and try all over again.

On the plus side, the device seems very durable, which is good, because you'll be spending a considerable amount of your time throwing it across the room.

I love Zunes, bought a Iod and hated it. The only thing that I hate is that I didn't see the 120GB when I purchased the 80gb. It was only a couple of dollars different but I am satisfied either way.
